Fresh off their historic victory in Paris, the Pittsburgh Steelers brought plenty of personality back onto the flight home. While the team secured a hard-fought win against the New Orleans Saints at the Stade de France, much of the post-game chatter centered on a viral fashion statement made by the team’s signal-callers.
Upon arriving at the Paris stadium, Pittsburgh's quarterbacks turned heads by stepping out in coordinated “Peaky Blinders-style” tailored suits and flat caps. Naturally, the internet had a field day questioning the British-gangster aesthetic in the heart of France.
But during his post-game podcast “Not Just Football with Cam Heyward,” defensive anchor Cameron Heyward had a much funnier bone to pick: the defense was entirely left out of the memo.
Speaking on a live episode of his show, Heyward humorously called out the offensive unit for maintaining a well-documented clique. When discussing the sharp European travel wear, Heyward didn't hold back his playful frustration.
"Actually, what I see actually a lot of people are making fun. They're like, why are they wearing the Peaky Blinder stuff in France? I don't know. But I thought it was it was cute," Heyward noted, before leaning into the locker room politics.
Heyward’s podcast co-host Hayden Walsh joked about how he was also left out of Aaron Rodgers’ trip out west with his offensive teammates.
"This feels like it goes back to training camp, though, when you were invited to Wyoming or wherever they went, Idaho. And it just feels like the quarterbacks are kind of excluding the defensive guys from this stuff, bro,” said Walsh.
Heyward said that the offense is just trying to ice him out. “It's the offense. They don't want your boy to get back on offense and do great things."
While the defense might have missed out on the coordinated styling overseas, Heyward joked that he would have fully leaned into the bit if given the chance. For a team navigating the heavy physical toll of international travel and a quick turnaround, a little locker room ribbing over matching tweed caps proves that team chemistry remains at an all-time high.
