Jay-Z will headline the 2027 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
The rapper - who has been working with the NFL to help curate their live entertainment events since 2019 - has been announced as the headline act for Super Bowl LXI, which takes place on February 14 at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California and he described it as a "dream come true".
Jay-Z said in a statement: "From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl halftime stage, this has been a journey,” Jay-Z said in a statement. “Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world’s biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true."
Jay-Z and his company Roc Nation have been partnered with the NFL since 2019 and he's been tasked with producing the organisation's showpiece events, including the Super Bowl half-time show which has been headlined by acts including Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, Kendrick Lamar, Usher and Bad Bunny in recent years.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has now revealed he's wanted Jay-Z to perform at the Super Bowl ever since the rapper signed the deal to help produce the show.
Goodell said: "When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him.
"I couldn’t be more excited for fans around the world to experience the artistry, creativity and cultural impact he will bring to the Super Bowl stage."
Rumours about the 2027 headline act have been swirling for weeks and they pointed towards the 99 Problems hitmaker finally taking the stage himself.
Last year, the show's producer Jesse Collins revealed Jay-Z is very hands-on when it comes to producing the show and the decision about picking the artist always falls to the rapper himself.
Collins told Variety: "t’s a decision that Jay makes. Since we’ve been onboard with that show, he’s made it every year, and it’s been amazing. He’s always picked right!"
Last year's show - which was headline by Bad Bunny - earned nine Emmy nominations and drew in 128.2 million viewers - making it the fourth-most-watched Super Bowl halftime show in history.
