The All Progressives Congress (APC) has set a target of more than two million votes for President Bola Tinubu in Niger State in the 2027 presidential election.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago announced the target on Monday in Minna while inaugurating the state’s 525-member APC Presidential and Governorship Campaign Council.
Bago said the party would deploy a grassroots mobilisation structure spanning polling units, wards, local government areas and the state to achieve its electoral ambition.
“If everybody would bring their own votes, it would give us more than one million votes. But our target is beyond that. The ambition this time around is to bring out over two million votes, and by the grace of God, we will do that,” the governor said.
He disclosed that the wider political network supporting the campaign had grown to more than 100,000 members, describing it as a platform for mobilising voters ahead of the elections.
The governor also announced plans to commission the APC North-Central Presidential Campaign Office in Minna the following week, with President Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima and other party leaders among the possible attendees.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the APC would campaign on the record of economic reforms, infrastructure development and national transformation under Tinubu’s administration.
Idris expressed confidence that the achievements of the Federal Government and APC-led state governments would form the centrepiece of the party’s message to voters.
“The truth of the matter is that the Nigerian economy and the Nigerian people have been transformed by the administration of the APC under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. And we are going to campaign on the records that the President has made in the last three and a half years,” he said.
The minister argued that the administration’s policies had begun addressing longstanding economic challenges, strengthening public finances, attracting investment and laying the foundation for sustainable growth.
He described the APC as the party to beat in the 2027 elections, citing the performance of Tinubu and governors elected on the party’s platform.
Idris also expressed appreciation for his appointment to both the Presidential Campaign Council and the Niger State Governorship Campaign Council, pledging to contribute to the party’s preparations.
He commended Bago for his leadership and efforts to strengthen the APC’s structures and mobilise political stakeholders across Niger State.
The inauguration brought together party leaders, political officeholders and other stakeholders as the APC intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections.
