Italian classification and engineering group RINA has appointed Paolo Moretti as its new group chief executive, turning to a maritime industry veteran to lead the Genoa-headquartered business through its next phase of expansion.
Moretti, previously general manager and head of RINA’s marine and certification businesses, succeeds Carlo Luzzatto, who had led the group since December 2023.
Executive chairman Ugo Salerno retains his position, while Giosuè Vezzuto takes over from Moretti as chief executive of RINA Services, the group’s marine classification and certification arm.
A naval engineer, Moretti joined RINA in 1997 and has held several senior positions, including general manager of the marine business, executive vice president of marine strategic development and chief commercial officer.
He headed RINA Services between 2020 and 2026, overseeing activities at the heart of the group’s traditional maritime operations.
The leadership change comes after a period of substantial expansion for the Italian group, which has more than doubled its revenues over the past five years. Its growth strategy has included acquisitions aimed at expanding its engineering and technical capabilities, including the purchase of Finnish naval architecture and marine engineering specialist Foreship.
Moretti’s appointment also marks another management change since Fondo Italiano d’Investimento entered RINA’s shareholder structure in 2023. The investment firm committed up to €180m at the time, taking a minority position alongside controlling shareholder Registro Italiano Navale. Luzzatto joined as chief executive during that investment process, replacing Salerno, who moved into the executive chairman role.
The group has since pursued an international expansion strategy targeting growth in maritime services, certification, infrastructure and engineering.
