Colombo, Oct. 27 (Daily Mirror) - Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his electoral victory, saying the world would look to him to help shape BRICS into a forum that gives the Global South a stronger voice in global finance, trade and development.
“As BRICS grows in membership and influence, the world will look to you to help shape it into a forum that gives the Global South a firmer voice in global finance, trade and development. Your work on climate action, food security and reform of international institutions is greatly valued by developing nations, including Sri Lanka,” he said in a congratulatory message.
“Please accept my warmest congratulations on your re-election as President of Brazil. Winning a fourth term, after a hard-fought campaign, shows the deep trust the people of Brazil continue to place in your leadership. It is also a tribute to the strength of Brazilian democracy,” the message said.
“Your victory brought relief to many of us in this part of the world. Your leadership matters well beyond Brazil,” he added.
