The Kaduna State gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rt. Hon. Isa Mohammed Ashiru, has denied blaming the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, for escalated insecurity in the state.
In a statement which Abdulwaheed Olayinka Adubi, his Chief Press Secretary, issued on his behalf, Ashiru described the report as misleading and a misrepresentation of his position, stressing that his comments during a television interview had been misconstrued and presented in a manner that did not reflect what he actually said.
He maintained that the report attributed to him did not accurately reflect his position on the former governor or the security challenges confronting the state.
Ashiru expressed confidence that the necessary steps would be taken to ensure that the published report accurately reflected the content and context of the interview.
He urged media organisations to ensure that reports of interviews and other public engagements accurately reflect the views expressed by those involved, noting that misleading reports can distort public understanding and undermine constructive democratic discourse.
The ADC candidate reaffirmed his respect for the media and its critical role in promoting accountability, strengthening democracy and keeping citizens informed. He, however, called on media practitioners to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accuracy and due diligence, especially when reporting politically sensitive issues.
