A hotel manager, Joseph Terdoo, has reportedly died after a confrontation with a worker at a hotel in the Utako area of Abuja.
The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, who disclosed the incident, said it occurred around 5am on Tuesday after the Utako Police Division received a distress report.
He said police operatives mobilised to the hotel following reports of suspicious noise and activity on the third floor of the building.
According to the commissioner, the officers found Terdoo unconscious and rushed him to Wuse District Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Sanusi said preliminary investigations revealed that Terdoo had been involved in a disagreement with a worker, Samuel Nel, a tiler, which allegedly degenerated into a physical confrontation.
“Samuel was alleged to have pushed Joseph, who fell and hit his head on a wooden object and collapsed,” the CP said.
Sanusi said the police were treating the incident as a case of alleged culpable homicide and had commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
He advised FCT residents to shun violence and self-help during disagreements and embrace peaceful means of resolving disputes.
However, in a separate development, the commissioner said operatives of the command intercepted a Lexus LX570 SUV with a concealed number plate in the Maitama District of Abuja.
He said the vehicle and its occupant were taken into custody for investigation and possible prosecution.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the concealed number plate bore the inscription “PRESIDENCY” and registration number “10B218 FG”.
“Following the suspect’s claim of being the legitimate holder of the number plate, further investigations revealed that the plate’s registration documents were forged, as the suspect was impersonating a Permanent Secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” Sanusi said.
The commissioner said investigations were ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court upon their conclusion.
He urged residents to remain law-abiding, cooperate with police operations and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
