MASJID TANAH: Barisan Nasional (BN) Melaka chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh has described last night's discussions with MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong as positive.
Rauf said the talks were close to resolving outstanding issues over seat allocation for the Melaka state election.
However, he said no decision could be announced yet.
"The discussions were good and constructive, and helped resolve several sticking points that had raised questions for some time.
"We will wait for MCA to perhaps announce the outcome of the negotiations held last night," he said after attending the launch of the BN Masjid Tanah parliamentary constituency election machinery at Villa d'Acqua, Kampung Pulau, here tonight.
The launch was officiated by BN chairman and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Rauf, who is also the state BN election director, maintained that the talks were positive despite Ka Siong expressing a different view.
"For me, the discussions were positive. We will wait for the decision. I cannot disclose anything yet.
"There will be no further discussions, but the party's top leadership will make the decision," he said.
Earlier, Wee was reported to have said that MCA did not consider its negotiations with BN's top leadership over seat allocation for the Melaka state election a positive development, despite the meeting between leaders of both parties taking place in a calm and cordial atmosphere last night.
He said the party had yet to achieve its intended objectives and that further discussions were needed to resolve the seat allocation issue.
His remarks came after Zahid confirmed that a special discussion with MCA leaders on seat allocation for the Melaka state election had concluded.
The Umno president was reported to have described the discussions involving Wee, BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and Rauf as positive.
