JEONNAM-GWANGJU — Jeonnam Development Corp. said on the 26th that it received a commendation from the Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment at the 2026 Renewable Energy Day ceremony, held recently at the Grand Conference Hall of COEX in Seoul.
The award recognized the corporation for delivering results through public-led renewable energy projects, returning power generation profits to local communities and helping build a regional renewable energy industry ecosystem.
Jeonnam Development Corp. created a dedicated renewable energy division in 2016, the first among the country's local development corporations, and has since expanded into offshore wind, solar and other renewable energy businesses.
In July 2025, it began commercial operation of the 4.3-megawatt Yeonggwang Yaksu offshore wind farm, the first public-led offshore wind project in South Jeolla Province. The project demonstrated the corporation's capability to handle the entire process from offshore wind development through operation.
The Yeonggwang Yaksu offshore wind farm generated 4,394 megawatt-hours of electricity in the second half of 2025, posting stable operating results.
The corporation is also expanding into energy storage systems. It won a combined 160 megawatts of capacity — 80 megawatts each in the Yeonggwang and Muan areas — in a competitive bid for the central ESS contract market organized by the Korea Power Exchange, extending its business from renewable power generation into storage.
Its efforts to share benefits with local communities also drew high marks.
Through its 6.5 megawatts of solar and 4.3 megawatts of offshore wind generation businesses, Jeonnam Development Corp. has funded scholarships for local students and village development funds. As of 2026, cumulative generation profits returned to local communities have reached 1.54 billion won.
As chair of the Jeonnam Wind Industry Association, the corporation has also built a cooperative framework with 122 member companies and is working to expand local firms' participation in the wind industry.
"This award recognizes our steady efforts to expand renewable energy projects and share benefits with local communities," said Jang Chung-mo, president of Jeonnam Development Corp. "Based on our public role and responsibility, we will continue to build a foundation for a sustainable energy industry in which local residents and businesses grow together."
