BNP has nominated Aliza Zaman for the November 12 by-election to reserved women’s seat-23 in the 13th parliament, which fell vacant following Ferdousy Ahmed Misty’s resignation on October 1.
Aliza, a member of the BNP central executive committee and joint convener of its Pirojpur district unit, submitted her nomination papers yesterday, the last day for filing nominations.
Her nomination was confirmed in a list signed by BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Ferdousy resigned following instructions from Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman amid allegations that people close to her were involved in an attack, vandalism and looting at Radda Mother and Child Care Centre in Mirpur, Dhaka last month.
A total of 68 women sought the BNP’s nomination for the seat. The party interviewed them at its chairman’s political office in Gulshan on October 19.
The Election Commission will scrutinise nomination papers today. The deadline for withdrawing candidature is November 1.
