Midland, Mich., ranked No. 1 on U.S. News & World Report‘s 2027 Best Places to Retire list for the second year in a row.
U.S. News evaluated more than 850 U.S. cities and published the top 250. Cities were scored on six indexes, weighted based on a March 2026 survey of 3,500 people ages 45 and older: quality of life (27%), value (24%), healthcare quality (16%), retiree taxes (16%), senior population and migration (9%), and job market (8%). The healthcare quality index draws on U.S. News‘ Best Hospitals rankings and measures access to top-rated care within and near each city.
U.S. News adjusted its weights this year to reflect growing concern about affordability, according to an Oct. 27 news release.
