Families and businesses in Enniscorthy are set to look forward to a stronger, more dependable water supply as Uisce Éireann wraps up important upgrade works on the local water network.
These improvements are intended to help support the everyday life in the community, whether it’s putting the kettle on in the morning, running a local business, or keeping community services flowing smoothly with clean, reliable water.
As part of this project, Uisce Éireann replaced 1.25 km of ageing water mains on Nunnery Road with modern, resilient pipes.
“These older pipes had been prone to bursts and leaks, causing supply interruptions and wasting treated drinking water, a precious resource. This section of the network was losing 220,000 litres of water per day, enough water to supply 1,654 people daily,” they explained.
The upgraded network will now bring greater reliability to homes and businesses right across Enniscorthy, providing a water service people can count on for years to come.
Enniscorthy’s own Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne TD welcomed news of the completed works.
“This is positive news for the people of Enniscorthy who will benefit from a more reliable water supply through these upgrades to the pipe network. A reliable water supply is fundamental to family and community life,” he said.
With upgrade works by Uisce Éireann now complete in the town, I’m pleased to see further progress on improvements to Wexford’s water supply,” he added.
The continued works follow the completion of a €19 million investment and upgrade into water supply and services in the area back in June of this year.
The project involved major engineering works including the construction of a new intake and pumping station at Clonhaston, which was designed with climate resilience in mind to future proof the supply, and the building of 2km of new interconnecting raw water mains enabling improved transfer of water from the River Slaney to the upgraded Vinegar Hill Water Treatment Plant.
