David Henrie revealed he barely gets any residuals from “Wizards of Waverly Place” — while “How I Met Your Mother” still pays him well.
“Disney was very… I think it was after at that time, they hadn’t like combined, so there really wasn’t much residuals,” Henrie explained on Monday’s episode of the “Good Guys” podcast.
“Maybe a little bit here and there,” he continued. “But nothing, really.”
Henrie, 37, played Selena Gomez’s on-screen brother, Justin Russo, on the Disney Channel series from 2007 to 2012.
He returned for the sequel series “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” which ended in August after three seasons. He was also an executive producer and director on the project.
Before “Wizards,” Henrie starred as Josh Radnor’s on-screen son, Luke, on “How I Met Your Mother” from 2005 to 2014 — and confirmed he’s seen generous residuals from the beloved CBS sitcom.
“Network TV took really good care of their people,” he said on the podcast. “I don’t know what it was about kids’ television.”
Henrie then asked Josh Peck, who co-hosts the podcast with comedian Ben Soffer, if he similarly got no residuals from his time on Nickelodeon.
“Nothing,” the “Drake & Josh” alum confirmed.
Henrie recalled a time that he thought one of his “HIMYM” residual checks “was a joke” because the amount was so high.
“I called my business manager and I was like, ‘They made a mistake. There’s no way. They added a zero on accident,'” Henrie shared. “And they’re like, ‘Nope. That’s it.’ I was like, ‘Unbelievable.'”
The actor confirmed that over a decade later, the comedy series “still gives me a lot of residuals.”
Henrie also explained that he filmed 30 episodes of “HIMYM,” but because of how editors cut the show, he appeared in nearly 90 episodes.
“It’s like doing 90 guest stars on a show at network rates back in the day,” he said. “It was crazy.”
Henrie was 16 when he began playing one of Ted Mosby’s two teenage children who hear the story of how their dad got together with their mom.
Bob Saget voiced Ted’s future self, but as Henrie explained on the podcast, he never crossed paths with the late comedian on set.
“He was just doing the voice,” Henrie said of Saget. “Never got to work with Bob.”
