Residents of Kongu Nagar in Polavapalayam panchayat of Nambiyur block have opposed the proposed relocation of a Tasmac outlet close to their residential area, citing concerns over the safety of women, children and senior citizens.
In a petition submitted to district administration during the grievances redress meeting held at the Collectorate on Monday (October 26, 2026), the residents said they had learnt that a Tasmac outlet, currently located about 700 metres south of their residential area, was to be relocated closer to Kongu Nagar and that work in this regard was under way. They had also learnt that a recreation club operating from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. was proposed to be established in the vicinity, they added.
The residents apprehended that the establishments would affect the safety of women and disturb the peace of the neighbourhood. They said people returning after consuming alcohol at night could cause public nuisance and lead to traffic congestion and law-and-order problems.
The proposed establishments could also affect the safety of school students and the peaceful lives of senior citizens, they said.
The residents urged the Collector to inspect the site, seek the views of the public and take steps to prevent the relocation of the outlet and the establishment of the recreation club.
