FEDERAL allocations for Terengganu will rise to RM8.2 billion in 2027 from RM6 billion in 2022, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today, as he defended the government’s approach to distributing development funds across constituencies regardless of political affiliation.
He said development funding continued to reach the people through projects to upgrade dilapidated schools, religious schools, rural roads and mosques, rejecting the suggestion that opposition-held areas were being denied allocations.
“I disagree with the assumption that no allocations have been approved, because funding for the people is being delivered,” he said during Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat.
Anwar was responding to Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (PN-Besut), who asked whether the government planned to legislate for equal distribution of development allocations among MPs, regardless of party, in line with Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto.
Anwar said the main issue was the mechanism for channelling funds directly to MPs, rather than whether development projects were being funded.
He said allocations were not paid directly to MPs, including those from government parties, as projects were determined through coordination with state governments and relevant ministries.
“Direct allocations to opposition MPs under the previous arrangement had been facilitated through confidence-and-supply agreements (CSA),” he added.
Citing Besut as an example, Anwar said RM123 million had been approved for 197 projects and minor works covering infrastructure, healthcare, housing, agriculture, education and flood mitigation.
These included RM8 million for the rehabilitation of Sungai Besut, an integrated bus and taxi terminal in Jertih, RM18 million for security works at Gong Kedak Air Base and RM37 million for a health clinic.
Anwar said development priorities were set through consultations with ministries, departments, state governments and district offices, taking into account local needs and the government’s financial capacity.
He said the government remained open to considering additional projects based on their importance to local communities and available funds. - October 27, 2026
