Jakarta (ANTARA) -
Indonesia's Health Ministry and the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) have pledged to pursue health system reforms, focusing on National Health Insurance (JKN) financing and protections for doctors.
Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono praised doctors nationwide on Monday, October 26, for their work at the forefront of public health.
Doctors ranked second only to teachers in a public-trust survey, reflecting their integrity, communication skills and empathy in patient care, he said.
"Health challenges are growing more complex, from access disparities to JKN financing. The ministry is simplifying professional administration, easing professional-credit requirements and improving doctors' welfare and protection, with IDI as a strategic partner," Harbuwono said.
As of August 2026, JKN enrollment reached 99.10 percent of Indonesia's population, while the service burden had risen 75 percent from 2019.
The government is pursuing measures including referrals based on health facilities' capabilities, the Standard Inpatient Class (KRIS) system and revisions to regulations governing doctors' professional practice.
IDI Chairman Slamet Budiarto stressed the need for fair health financing, legal protection and better welfare for doctors across Indonesia.
"On its 76th anniversary, IDI must strengthen professional unity, uphold ethics and advocate quality, equitable health care. We must also speak openly about inadequate funding and the need for fairer financing rules," he said.
He also called for stronger protections against violence and criminalization, saying doctors must be able to work safely and focus on patient safety.
The ministry and IDI pledged to use the anniversary and National Doctors' Day as a platform for open dialogue and concrete policy recommendations to make health care safer for Indonesians.
