DAR ES SALAAM: THE government is optimistic about addressing the outstanding requirements at Uhuru Stadium to strengthen Simba’s chances of hosting their CAF Champions’ League groupstage matches in Dar es Salaam.
Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports Hamis Mwinjuma said the improvements needed at the venue were manageable and within the government’s capacity, raising hopes that the Msimbazi giants could play their continental fixtures at Uhuru Stadium.
Mwinjuma made the remarks during a post-match interview after Simba defeated 15 de Agosto 3-0 at Uhuru Stadium on Sunday, completing a 9-1 aggregate victory to book their place in the CAF Champions League group stage.
He said the government is committed to creating a favourable environment for Tanzanian clubs to compete on the continental stage, including ensuring that local stadiums meet the required standards.

“The things we have been told are required for Uhuru Stadium to be used in the next stage are very minor. They are entirely within our capacity,” Mwinjuma said.
The deputy minister’s remarks offer encouragement to Simba as preparations for the group stage gather pace, with the prospect of hosting matches in Dar es Salaam carrying significant benefits for the club and its supporters.
Mwinjuma also emphasised the government’s responsibility to ensure that local teams compete in conditions that give them the best possible opportunity to succeed.
His assurance now puts the focus on addressing the outstanding requirements and working towards the necessary clearance from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
