Ethereum’s October decline has pushed traders to reassess where buyers might intervene. Rather than treating a price as a guaranteed floor, analysts compare historical lows, moving averages, trading activity, and derivatives positioning to identify zones where selling pressure could weaken.
Ethereum traded around USD 2,310.75 on October 26, according to CoinMarketCap, after closing near USD 2,697 on October 6. This represents a decline of approximately 14.32% in twenty days, showing why support analysis matters during corrections.
Historical Prices Reveal Potential Demand
Traders examine previous swing lows and areas where Ethereum repeatedly rebounded. October 24 recorded an intraday low near USD 2,285, while October 26 trading reached approximately USD 2,298. These observations place USD 2,285-USD 2,300 on the immediate watchlist.
Support becomes more credible when buyers defend it across several sessions. Conversely, repeated tests can exhaust demand. Analysts therefore examine daily closing prices and subsequent rebounds rather than assuming an intraday bounce confirms a durable bottom.
Moving Averages Provide Additional Context
Moving averages help distinguish temporary weakness from broader trend deterioration. On the daily chart, Ethereum’s 100-day exponential moving average is near USD 2,362, and its 200-day average around USD 2,316. With Ethereum subsequently trading below these levels, traders reassess whether former support has turned into resistance.
A recovery above the averages could improve sentiment, whereas continued trading beneath them suggests sellers retain control. The 14-day relative strength index is near 40. An RSI below 50 indicates weaker momentum but does not guarantee an imminent reversal.
On-Chain Cost Basis and ETF Flows
Blockchain metrics offer another perspective. Ethereum’s realized price, an estimate of average on-chain acquisition cost, stood near USD 2,311. Trading below that benchmark can leave the average holder facing unrealized losses, potentially affecting selling or accumulation decisions.
Institutional flows also matter. According to SoSoValue, US spot Ethereum ETFs recorded approximately USD 320 million in net withdrawals during October 12-16, indicating subdued demand. However, ETF outflows cannot independently identify precise support. On October 23, ETH ETFs recorded USD 4.35 million in net inflows.
Derivatives Expose Liquidation Risks
Liquidation maps highlight levels where leveraged positions may close forcibly. Traders identified a concentrated long-liquidation cluster around USD 2,299, with approximately USD 39.8 million in estimated exposure. Such concentrations can accelerate declines if breached, although modeled liquidation levels are estimates rather than guaranteed executions.
What Traders Watch Next
The USD 2,285-USD 2,300 region remains an immediate area to monitor, alongside sustained buying and improving volume. Reclaiming USD 2,317 and USD 2,363 would strengthen the recovery case. A decisive breakdown could prompt traders to examine lower historical demand zones.

FAQs:
1. What are the key Ethereum support levels during the October downturn?
Ethereum's immediate support zone lies between USD 2,285 and USD 2,300, based on recent trading lows. A sustained breakdown below this range could increase selling pressure and expose ETH to lower historical demand zones.
2. How do traders identify reliable support levels for Ethereum?
Traders examine historical price lows, trading volume, moving averages, RSI, and on-chain metrics to identify potential support areas. Repeated buying activity and sustained rebounds can strengthen confidence in these levels, although support does not guarantee a price reversal.
3. What do Ethereum's moving averages indicate about its current price trend?
Ethereum's 100-day EMA stood near USD 2,363, while its 200-day EMA was approximately USD 2,317 in the cited October 23 assessment. Trading below these levels indicates a weaker technical structure, while reclaiming them could improve recovery prospects.
4. How are Ethereum ETF inflows and outflows affecting market sentiment?
US spot Ethereum ETFs recorded approximately USD 320 million in net outflows during October 12–16, indicating reduced institutional demand. However, USD 4.35 million in net inflows on October 23 suggested some buying interest, although a single positive session does not confirm a sustained recovery.
5. Can Ethereum recover after its 14.32% decline in October?
Ethereum could strengthen its recovery outlook by defending the USD 2,285–USD 2,300 support zone and reclaiming resistance around USD 2,317 and USD 2,363. Improving trading volume, sustained ETF inflows, and reduced liquidation pressure could provide additional confirmation of a potential rebound.
