President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election, expressing Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between both countries.
In a statement issued by the State House on Monday, Tinubu described Lula as his friend and said his renewed mandate offered an opportunity to deepen the longstanding friendship and historical ties between Nigeria and Brazil.
The President said both countries, as leading nations of the Global South, could work together to promote economic integration and advance shared interests amid changes in the global order.
“As two leading nations of the Global South, we can promote economic integration and advance our shared interests in a rapidly changing global order,” Tinubu said.
He expressed his desire to expand cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture and food security, energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, science and technology, education, aviation and cultural exchange.
Tinubu also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with Brazil to strengthen multilateral cooperation and advance common priorities across Africa, South America and the wider Global South.
“On behalf of the people of Nigeria, I wish you a successful new term in office,” the President said.
The statement was signed by Tinubu in his capacity as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on October 26, 2026.
