No one has thrown more touchdowns for the Los Angeles Rams than Matthew Stafford. Yes, the headline was a bit of a trick question as the answer is in the question because on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, Stafford threw three touchdowns and became the Rams franchise leader in passing scores.
Stafford passed Roman Gabriel to take the record. Stafford also leads the Detroit Lions in passing touchdowns, making him the only quarterback to lead two separate franchises in throwing scores. Not bad.
Stafford has broken and or matched records before, and he did it again on Sunday, but his team won the game too. The best of both worlds.
Stafford can enjoy his record setting ways this week, and enjoy his win before the Rams try to do it all again and try to notch another win in Week 8.
Rams beat Raiders as Matthew Stafford sets franchise TD record (cbssports)
“Stafford has 155 touchdown passes in a Rams uniform, one more than previous team record holder Roman Gabriel. The reigning MVP also became the first player to accomplish that for two teams; Stafford’s 282 touchdown passes is Detroit’s record.”
Rams’ Matthew Stafford Gets Strong Words Amid Major Career News (sports.yahoo)
“This is Stafford’s second time achieving such a feat, doing so with the Detroit Lions.
“Matthew Stafford is the first quarterback in NFL history to lead two different franchises in passing touchdowns,” Rams PR posted.
“Congratulations Matthew; ALL TIME PASSING TD LEADER!” Rams legend Jim Everett said in a post on X, tagging the team.“
Puka Nacua addresses reinjury fears after MRI reveals calf injury details (sports.yahoo)
“”Just trying to run, and deceleration after, guys, it kind of tapped off on the play. I just planted, and just felt something in my lower calf,” he said.
The Rams star also confirmed that the MRI had not revealed anything significant, although he was unsure which specific muscle had been affected.
Nacua admitted that avoiding the fear of reinjury was part of his preparation before facing the Raiders.
“I try to mentally prepare and say that I’m full focus and being able to play in the game and kind of letting some of those worries and fears go,” he explained.“
Kyren Williams and Blake Corum combine for feat last accomplished in 2001 (sports.yahoo)
“Corum eclipsed Williams in carries, 17 to 16, picking up 93 yards and a touchdown. Williams had 99 yards and a touchdown.
This actually has happened since Faulk and Canidate, but it was in the playoffs. During the Rams’ divisional round win over the Dallas Cowboys on January 12, 2019, both Todd Gurley and C.J. Anderson rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown, combining for 238 rushing yards and three scores in the 30-22 win. That was the last NFL playoff game that was played at the Los Angeles Coliseum.“
After losing their identity on offense, the Rams may have just found it (ramswire)
“In a 35-21 win over the Raiders, the Rams handed it off to their running backs 33 times. Kyren Williams rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Blake Corum had 93 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. They combined for 192 yards rushing and 30 yards receiving, running exceptionally well all afternoon. It could’ve been much more, too, because Corum had a 43-yard touchdown run called back by a penalty.“
Matthew Stafford sets Rams TD pass record as Los Angeles rolls past Raiders 35-21 (espn.com)
“Matthew Stafford threw for 195 yards and three touchdowns to become the Rams’ career leader in passing TDs, and Los Angeles resembled the team previously favored to win the Super Bowl, beating the Las Vegas Raiders 35-21 on Sunday.
The Rams (3-4) still have a ways to go to overcome their slow start and numerous injuries, but this victory improves their chances to be a factor in the playoff race. Since the NFL playoffs expanded from 12 to 14 teams in 2020, 10 of 41 clubs have made the postseason after opening 3-4, with just 4 of 33 making it after going 2-5.“
Rams open as heavy favorites vs. winless Chargers in Week 8 (ramswire)
“The Chargers are the only winless team left in the NFL and coming off a bye, they’ll surely be motivated. The Rams, though, will be equally fired up after starting the season 3-4.
According to BetMGM, the Rams are heavily favored in this matchup, opening as 7-point favorites over the Chargers. The over/under is set at 43.5 points, with the Rams being -325 to win straight-up on the moneyline (bet $325 to win $100).“
Is Blake Corum overtaking Kyren Williams as Rams’ top RB? (ramswire)
“Against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, there may have been a shift in the Rams’ backfield.
Williams once again got the start, as he has every week that he’s been available since Week 2 of the 2023 season. However, it was Corum who got the first carry of the day. After throwing three straight passes on the opening three-and-out with Williams on the field, Corum took over at running back on the second drive. And so when the Rams decided to run the ball for the first time, he was the one taking the handoff.“
Hobbled Nacua has 68 yards, TD vs. LV (nbcsports)
“Nacua, dealing with a calf injury, didn’t appear to be 100 percent but still got by just fine against a beatable Vegas secondary. He caught one of Matthew Stafford’s three touchdowns and led the Rams offense with ten targets. Nacua has a good chance of leading the NFL in targets for the remainder of the season with Davante Adams (hamstring) out indefinitely. His role in the LA offense makes Nacua one of the most dangerous fantasy options in the game. He gets the Chargers secondary in Week 8.”
Rams Winners and Losers: Blake Corum Makes His Case for Bigger Role Against Raiders (sports.yahoo)
“After last week’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals, in a moment of frustration, Williams said that the offense lacked energy because he wasn’t on the field. It may have been a nothingburger, but Sunday was a reminder that Williams needs to focus on his game and the rest will follow. In the third quarter, Williams let the Raiders back in the game with his second fumble of the season. Williams sucked the energy out of the offense. The fumbling issues continue to be his Achilles heel. He finished one yard shy of 100 yards, but the turnovers matter.
Winner: LB Shaun Dolac/Omar Speights
The Rams were without Nate Landman on Sunday and Speights filled in nicely in a full-time role. Speights was great against the run, finishing with six tackles, including two tackles for loss. Shaun Dolac deserves more opportunities on defense after adding three tackles of his own. Nate Landman is a captain and has a knack for forcing turnovers, but the Rams looked good at linebacker against the Raiders.“
Comment of the Day:
“We learned that the sky isn’t falling and that the sun will rise again tomorrow. Seriously…I’m so proud of the effort in a make or break game. The team I watched today can play with anybody. With backups. I’m not saying it’s still Super Bowl or bust but we won the line of scrimmage. Again, with lots of reserves. Think about what this does for team confidence. It’s only one game, but it’s a big one.”-Sunsetstripped
