SOUTH AFRICA — The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has served a Rule 10.6 notice on Bejani Chauke, a former principal political adviser to President Cyril Ramaphosa, in connection with communications involving the late taxi boss Jotham "King Mswazi" Msibi.
According to eNCA, sources with knowledge of the matter indicate that the commission is seeking answers from Chauke regarding the nature of his relationship with Msibi, with particular focus on WhatsApp exchanges between the two men. Those conversations are understood to have taken place between 2022 and 2023.
Chauke's ties to the Presidency
Bejani Freddy Chauke is an ANC National Executive Committee member and political strategist. He was appointed as Ramaphosa's principal political adviser in August 2018 and held the position until late 2022, when he stepped down to concentrate on internal ANC party elections.
Following his formal departure from the Presidency, Chauke is reported to have continued supporting Ramaphosa in a voluntary capacity, including involvement in international diplomatic engagements as a special envoy.

Commission seeks answers on Msibi communications
The Rule 10.6 notice means Chauke could be compelled to respond to questions about his contact with Msibi during the period he was still formally attached to the Presidency. The scrutiny forms part of wider attention being paid to WhatsApp messages linked to Msibi, whose communications have drawn considerable interest from the commission.
No further details about the specific content of the notice or the full scope of what the commission expects from Chauke have been made available at this stage.
