The Federal Government has confirmed the evacuation of Nigeria’s index case of Ebola virus disease from Abuja to Switzerland for further medical care.
The patient departed Nigeria earlier on Monday alongside her spouse, who has remained asymptomatic, according to a statement posted on X by Muhammad Ali.
Ali said the patient’s condition had improved significantly before the evacuation, noting that she was “clinically much improved, stable, conscious, communicating”.
He added that her clinical laboratory test results were “closing towards baseline”, but warned that the improvement did not mean she was no longer infectious.

“This does not mean she is not still infectious, hence the strict protocols in place,” he stated.
Ali commended the clinical staff for the quality of care provided to the patient and public health personnel who ensured the evacuation complied with public health measures.
He said further updates would be provided later on Monday after the patient and her spouse arrived safely at their destination.
“All public health measures are continuing to ensure successful containment of the imported virus,” he stated.
He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and rely on credible sources for information.
