Munich, Oct 26: Bayern Munich returned to the top of the Bundesliga after securing a 3-1 victory over Freiburg away from home on Sunday, despite a rare goalless outing for star striker Harry Kane.
Dayot Upamecano, Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise found the net for Bayern, who moved level on 17 points with Borussia Dortmund, having played their latest fixture a day after their rivals recorded a 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Gnabry reached a significant milestone by scoring his 100th Bundesliga goal, adding to Bayern’s commanding performance against a Freiburg side that has endured a difficult spell after an impressive start to the campaign.
Freiburg had won eight of its first nine matches across all competitions but Sunday’s defeat marked its third consecutive loss. The result left the club third in the Bundesliga standings.
Bayern, meanwhile, continued their pursuit of domestic honours despite being without head coach Vincent Kompany, who collapsed during a training session on Friday.
Elsewhere in Germany, Bayer Leverkusen’s impressive run came to an abrupt end after they suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Hoffenheim.(Agencies)
