Jay-Z is finally stepping out from behind the curtain. The hip-hop legend, who has spent years shaping the Super Bowl halftime show as a producer, is set to headline the performance himself at Super Bowl LXI on February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The NFL made the announcement this week, confirming that Shawn Carter, known professionally as Jay-Z, will take centre stage at one of the most watched entertainment events in the world.
His company, Roc Nation, has produced the halftime show since 2019, during which time he has been instrumental in selecting the performers who have graced the stage. Until now, he had never been one of them.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell revealed that he had actually made a personal appeal to the rapper from the very beginning of their partnership.

"When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him," Goodell said.
Jay-Z on 30 years in the game
The timing of the announcement carries extra significance. Jay-Z performed two shows at SoFi Stadium last weekend as part of a tour marking the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, the record that launched his career in hip-hop.
The Super Bowl booking builds on that momentum. Speaking about the upcoming performance, Jay-Z said:
"From 'Reasonable Doubt' to standing on the Super Bowl halftime stage, this has been a journey. Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true."
The league teased that the performance could include some big surprises, noting that "anticipation as to who Jay-Z might have as a guest star at halftime for the big game will now kick off."
His wife, Beyoncé, is among the names generating the most buzz among fans.
A legacy that speaks for itself
Jay-Z joins an impressive roster of recent halftime headliners that includes Usher, Rihanna, The Weeknd, Bad Bunny and Kendrick Lamar, whose 2025 performance broke records as the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show in history and won an Emmy Award for outstanding music direction.
Over three decades, Jay-Z has accumulated 25 Grammy Awards and became the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2021, he was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
His Super Bowl appearance will mark a full-circle moment, transitioning from the person who built the halftime show to the artist finally standing at its centre.
What happened to Jay-Z and Beyoncé's house?
In a separate story, a 63-year-old man from the Bronx was arrested after crashing his vehicle at high speed into the closed security gates of Beyoncé and Jay-Z's East Hampton estate, causing significant property damage.
Law enforcement noted that the suspect had no criminal history, appeared disoriented, and made no threats or direct mention of the celebrity couple.
Investigators indicated he may have chosen the property by chance while experiencing a possible medical or disorientation issue, and the incident remains under active investigation.
