The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has cancelled its constituency-level election in Amenfi East in the Western Region following challenges during the party’s nationwide internal polls.
The cancellation was one of the difficulties encountered during the exercise, which also saw delays in some constituencies, partly due to problems distributing ballot papers.
Despite the setbacks, the party has expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of the elections, describing the process as an improvement on the previous exercise.
The NDC says it will assess the challenges encountered and draw lessons from the exercise to strengthen preparations for the upcoming regional elections.
The party’s Acting Director of Elections and IT, Mahdi Jibril, disclosed the cancellation in an interview with Channel One TV on Sunday, October 25, while reviewing the conduct of the polls.
“I would say so far, it is an improvement from the last election. I think the party is happy with the process,” he said, adding that, apart from the cancellation in Amenfi East and other logistical challenges, the exercise had been satisfactory.
