Kiah Stokes has emerged as a major defensive difference-maker in the 2026 WNBA Finals. She has repeatedly frustrated Angel Reese as the Golden State Valkyries move within one win of the championship. After limiting the Atlanta Dream star to just 2-of-12 shooting when serving as her primary defender in Game 4, Stokes followed up with another impactful performance in Game 5. She helped Golden State seize control of the series.
If defense wins championships, then Kiah Stokes is doing her part 🔒
She has recorded 3+ blocks in 5 straight playoff games this year, which is the 3rd-longest streak in WNBA Playoffs history, trailing only Lisa Leslie ('03) and Margo Dydek ('02) who each had 6 straight games. pic.twitter.com/XxxJ58bH06

Stokes’ Game 4 numbers highlighted just how effectively she disrupted Reese. The forward shot only 22% against Stokes, compared with a blistering 68% against other defenders in the series. Stokes also recorded three blocks, making it difficult for Atlanta to establish a consistent interior attack.
Her influence continued in Game 5. Stokes contributed 13 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks in another crucial Valkyries victory. Her scoring provided a welcome bonus, but her defensive presence remained central to Golden State’s success. With Stokes challenging shots around the basket, the Dream have had a tougher time relying on Reese to generate efficient offense inside.
Stokes has been a foundational piece of Golden State’s impressive 2026 campaign. She averaged 3.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game during the regular season. She has provided veteran stability and elite rim protection. Her postseason shot-blocking streak has further underscored her value as the Valkyries navigate the biggest games of their campaign.
The Finals have offered a clear example of how Stokes can influence a matchup without dominating the scoring column. By making Reese work for every finish and protecting the paint, she has helped Golden State gain a critical edge. Now, with the Valkyries one win from their first WNBA title, Stokes’ continued success against Reese could prove decisive in the series’ final chapter.
