Hanmi Pharmaceutical (128940.KS) is expanding into health functional foods on the heels of its obesity drug, broadening its push into the weight management market. The company aims to widen its business in obesity and metabolic disease with products that address not only body fat reduction but also muscle strength, energy and skin health.
Hanmi Pharmaceutical said on the 27th that it is launching three health functional food products under the Epislim brand, following regulatory approval of Efpe, the country's first glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) obesity drug, whose active ingredient is efpeglenatide.
The new lineup consists of Epislim Muscle, Epislim Boost and Epislim Skin. Each product offers different functional benefits tailored to concerns that can arise during weight management, such as muscle loss, fatigue and deteriorating skin condition.
Epislim Muscle contains a lime and cacao extract complex, which can help reduce body fat, and turmeric extract, which can help improve muscle strength. Epislim Boost combines the lime and cacao extract complex with octacosanol and B vitamins, which can help build endurance, focusing on body fat management and increased energy. Epislim Skin contains low-molecular collagen peptides, biotin and green tea extract, addressing both body fat management and skin health.
All three products contain either the lime and cacao extract complex or green tea extract, both recognized by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for body fat reduction benefits. They also share secondary ingredients aimed at gastrointestinal health, including peony root extract powder, fermented soybean extract powder and Cudrania tricuspidata fruit.
Hanmi Pharmaceutical said it designed the products in response to growing consumer demand to manage overall physical condition, including muscle strength, energy and skin health, rather than weight loss alone.
"Epislim is a product that takes into account the muscle strength, energy and skin health that consumers care about during the weight management process," an official at Hanmi Pharmaceutical said. "Based on our expertise in obesity and metabolic disease, we will expand our healthcare solutions for sustainable weight management."
The three Epislim products will be supplied selectively to pharmacies that can offer specialized counseling on weight management, through Online Pharm, an affiliate of Hanmi Science.
