The Miami Heat have started the season 0-4, and there is a lot of frustration about how Bam Adebayo has played this season.
Adebayo was once considered the Heat’s first option, given how strong a scorer he is. The man who holds the record for the second-most points scored in a game has not shown anywhere near the same scoring prowess to start the season.
While new arrival Giannis Antetokounmpo has been at his stellar best, the same cannot be said about his frontcourt partner, who has failed to make an impact this season.
Davion Mitchell tells Bam Adebayo to be ‘more aggressive’ to overcome scoring slump
Speaking to reporters after the Miami Heat’s loss to the Dallas Mavericks, Davion Mitchell was asked about what he can do to help Bam Adebayo overcome his scoring slump.
While Mitchell admitted that he has to get Adebayo the ball in the paint, he did call on Bam to be more aggressive as a scorer.
“Obviously, the paint and getting more easy looks. I have to do a better job of not letting him get lost in the game, but he also has to be intentional. He has got to be more aggressive.
“He’s still trying to figure it out. Him and Giannis play in the same spaces so when Giannis is on the floor with him, he can’t be in those same spaces.
“But this is something he’ll get used to. I don’t want to keep saying it is early, but it is. I think we’re still going to figure it out.”
Adebayo has been incredibly inefficient to start the season, averaging just 11.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.0 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game while shooting 40.0% from the field and 16.7% from beyond the arc.
With Giannis Antetokounmpo now becoming the first offensive option for the Heat, perhaps Adebayo is struggling with his new role on the Miami Heat and trying to adapt.
