Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has called upon Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders and grassroots workers to explain to people the benefits of having the same government at all three levels — the Centre, the State and local bodies — and urge them to make the right choice. He stressed the need for coordination at the grassroots level to ensure electoral success and promised nominated posts to leaders who were denied opportunities to contest local body elections owing to alliance equations, reservations and social re-engineering.
Addressing senior party leaders through a teleconference on Monday, Mr. Naidu stressed the need to uphold alliance dharma and called upon every party functionary to take the elections seriously. He urged leaders and workers to highlight the government’s fulfilment of its promises and its commitment to development, while exposing what he termed the destructive politics of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). He said the TDP-Jana Sena Party-BJP alliance had ensured good governance by striking a balance between welfare and development, which, he alleged, had taken a back seat during 2019-24.
Mr. Naidu said the TDP had done justice to the Backward Classes in the local body elections and given due priority to other marginalised communities. While the TDP and its allies were working together for the State’s progress, the YSRCP was attempting to create unrest through false propaganda, he alleged. He accused YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of treating the State as his personal fiefdom and said the party should be taught another lesson by the electorate.
