The Celtics continue to be at full strength minus one of their two-way players. Devin Carter is again listed as out, this time for the 7:30 p.m. Monday game against the Bulls. It’s unclear when Carter will return after missing the past few weeks because he’s dealing with mononucleosis. No one else is listed on Boston’s injury report.
On the Bulls’ side, they continue to be without center Nic Claxton, who’s dealing with a left hamstring strain. Noa Essengue (right hand) and Patrick Williams (right adductor) are both questionable. The Bulls are 1-2 heading into Monday’s game. The Celtics are 1-1 coming off their win over the Knicks last Friday.
Notably, the Celtics have their first back-to-back of the season coming up. After playing the Bulls on Monday, they face the Nets on Tuesday at TD Garden. Considering the C’s are at full strength Monday, it remains to be seen who could rest on the second night of a back-to-back.
There are multiple players on the roster where it remains to be seen how their workload will look over the course of a long regular season. Guys like Paul George and Mitchell Robinson could be rested some nights because of their injury history. Jayson Tatum’s status over the next few weeks is also noteworthy because he didn’t play back-to-backs in the limited time he had returning from his Achilles injury.
Carter hasn’t played for the Celtics since Oct. 8 in the preseason win over the Cavs, when he put up 17 points, five rebounds and three assists. He’s dealt with mononucleosis ever since which has kept him out to start the season. Carter showed enough during training camp to earn a two-way contract with the C’s this season.
