Khushi Kapoor’s Indian wear wardrobe has a fan following of its own. A quintessential ‘It’ girl, the actor is an early adopter of trends—sometimes even propagating them. Her latest festive look, which perfectly encapsulates the East-meets-West aesthetic that many young consumers seem to gravitate towards, is likely to have that effect on her audience, especially as they seek fun Indian wear ahead of Diwali and wedding season. The actor wore an embroidered, backless dress with cutouts from designer Arpita Mehta, which is perfect for those who want to give lehengas and saris a pass and choose a more experimental look.

The purple dress is a custom design, based on a plunging halterneck, floor-length dress in the same colour that was showcased at the designer’s presentation on the India Couture Week calendar in July this year. Mehta, whose design vocabulary is replete with mirror work, bandhani and cowrie shells, expanded her scope by incorporating more embroidery techniques. One of them—also observed in this look—is gemstone embroidery technique inspired by navratna jewellery. Diminutive four leaf clover-like designs, crafted to invoke a feeling of seeing bandhani, inundate the dress, which are embroidered with aari, bugle beads and a small green stone at its centre. The barely-there back, held together with mirror-embellished straps, compliments the strategically placed cut-outs on the front of the dress. A pre-pleated dupatta with matching mirror work completed the look.
Stylist Meagan Concessio accessorised with an oversized collar lattice necklace studded with green and blue precious stones and diamonds, matching stud earrings and rings from Aren and Ritika Fine Jewellery. Silver-coloured pointy heels from Jimmy Choo and a gilded, embroidered potli bag from Arpita Mehta completed the look.
With hair tied into a clean French twist, the actor showed off her back with no hindrance. Kapoor’s makeup by Mehak Oberoi focused on a decorated eye and nude lips.
