KUALA LUMPUR: The Higher Education Ministry will examine a study on university students' involvement in "sugar baby" activities that recently went viral on social media.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, said the ministry did not yet have figures on the number of students involved.
"Studies on the matter have been conducted, and we often hear about them in the media.
"But Yang Berhormat (Datuk Mumtaz Md Nawi) asked about the figures and how many students were involved.
"I will look into providing that information. If it is available, we will obtain it," he said during the winding-up debate on the policy stage of the Supply Bill 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
The study examined students from various higher education institutions who were involved in "sugar baby" activities.
Zambry said the ministry took the matter seriously and would verify the information.
"We will obtain the actual figures, but we need to examine the study, including how the activities are defined and what the findings are based on," he said.
