Nina Dobrev and Shaun White’s Hollywood Hills home became one of the most talked-about celebrity real estate stories of 2025, not because of its price alone, but because of what it represented.
The couple bought the $4.3 million midcentury modern property in 2023, began renovating it as their shared Los Angeles (LA) base, and later put it on the rental market for roughly $35,000 a month after ending their engagement. Architectural Digest reported the purchase and design details, while SFGate and US Weekly later connected the property to the former couple’s separation. The house was more than a luxury address. For Dobrev and White, it appeared to be the first home they purchased together, a place where they could merge their lives after years of dating and travelling together.
When news of their split emerged in September 2025, attention naturally turned to the property, its renovation, and the question of what would happen to a home that had once seemed intended for a future together.
A $4.3 million Hollywood Hills purchase
Dobrev, best known for 'The Vampire Diaries', and White, the three-time Olympic snowboarding champion, bought the Hollywood Hills home in July 2023 for $4.3 million, according to Architectural Digest. The property was built in 1964 and sits on 0.38 acres in a hillside setting, with trees and hedges providing privacy around the residence.
The home was described as a midcentury modern estate with a small pool house and views toward the mountains and the city below. Architectural Digest reported that it had four bedrooms and five bathrooms, along with an open-plan main level connecting the kitchen, dining area, and living space. Sliding glass doors opened to a balcony and pool area, while the outdoor space also included a bocce ball court on a terraced level below the house.SFGate later described the residence as 3,793 square feet, with four bedrooms and four bathrooms, a two-car garage, an infinity pool, tropical landscaping, and a bocce court. The listing details varied slightly between reports, but both accounts presented the home as a stylish, view-oriented property designed for indoor-outdoor living.
A renovation project and a shared future
At the time of the purchase, the home was not simply a finished celebrity mansion waiting to be moved into.
US Weekly reported that the property was under renovation when Dobrev and White separated in 2025, suggesting that the couple had been actively shaping it into a shared home. For the unversed, Dobrev and White had been together since around 2019 or 2020, and so their Hollywood Hills house appeared to be part of their life together.
SFGate noted that many people believed the property would become their marital home after White proposed to Dobrev in October 2024.The engagement itself had been widely covered. White proposed with a five-carat diamond ring by Lorraine Schwartz during a surprise dinner at The Golden Swan in New York City, according to US Weekly. Dobrev shared the moment on Instagram with the caption, “RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé,” making the relationship milestone public and adding to the sense that the couple was building a future together.
The split changed the plans
Nina Dobrev and Shaun White have ended their engagement after five years together. The couple, once a fan favorite, confirmed their split through sources close to them. The breakup was described as mutual and respectful, leaving fans surprised as they had been planning a wedding following White’s romantic proposal in 2024.
In September 2025, reports confirmed that Dobrev and White had ended their engagement and relationship after about five years together.
PEOPLE first reported the news, and a source described the decision as mutual, difficult, and made with love and respect.US Weekly later reported that the two remained in contact because parts of their lives were still intertwined, including the home they shared. A source said they were working out “next steps” for the property, which was still being renovated at the time. The outlet also reported that neither infidelity nor disagreement over having children was the reason for the breakup; instead, the former couple had simply grown apart. The timing made the house especially poignant. Less than two weeks before the split became public, Dobrev and White had been photographed holding hands at a Los Angeles farmers market. Soon after, Dobrev attended a red carpet event without her engagement ring, and she later unpinned her engagement photos from Instagram, signs that fuelled speculation before the separation was confirmed.
Listed for nearly $35,000 a month
The most striking real estate development came in February 2025, when property records indicated that the Hollywood Hills home was offered for rent at $34,995 per month, according to SFGate.
The listing was removed days later, and records suggested that the property had been leased. That monthly figure placed the home firmly in Los Angeles’ ultra-luxury rental market. At nearly $35,000 a month, the annual rent would amount to more than $419,000, a sum that reflects both the property’s location and its high-end features. For a home bought for $4.3 million, renting it out also offered a practical way to keep the asset occupied and generating income while the former couple decided what to do next.It is not clear from the available reports who leased the property or whether either Dobrev or White intended to retain it long term. SFGate reported that ownership remained unclear after the split, while US Weekly said the two were still finalising details related to the home.
What the house says about celebrity real estate
Celebrity homes often attract attention because they offer a glimpse into a famous couple’s private life, but the Dobrev and White property became newsworthy for a different reason.
It showed how real estate can become part of a relationship’s public narrative, especially when a couple buys, renovates, and later rents out a home within a short period. The Hollywood Hills house also highlighted the practical side of celebrity property ownership. Both Dobrev and White already owned other homes: Architectural Digest reported that Dobrev still had her Spanish-style West Hollywood residence, while White owned properties including a Nevada ranch, a Malibu estate, and a Utah cabin. For now, the $4.3 million home remains a reminder of a chapter that changed. It began as a joint purchase and renovation project for a couple planning a life together, then became a high-value rental listing after their engagement ended. The house’s next owners or tenants may see only a beautifully designed Los Angeles property, but its recent history gives it a story that extends well beyond its views, pool, and midcentury architecture.
