Juventus have adjusted their tactical approach following their disappointing home defeat to Lazio, with Luciano Spalletti making changes that appear to have improved the team’s defensive organisation.
The Bianconeri have shown signs of progress since that setback, although they were unable to beat Rennes in the Europa League. Supporters have noticed a difference in the team’s setup, particularly when possession is lost, as Juventus now drop into a five-man defensive line to provide greater protection at the back.
Spalletti changes Juventus’ tactical approach
According to Calciomercato, Spalletti held a meeting with his players after the defeat to Lazio, using the discussion to address the team’s vulnerability and explain what he expected from them on the pitch.
The Juventus manager reportedly outlined his plans to change the formation, aiming to make the side more solid defensively while improving its attacking options. The adjustment has allowed Nick Woltemade and Randal Kolo Muani to feature together in attack, supported by a three-man central defensive partnership.
The change gives Juventus a different balance between defence and attack. By having additional cover at the back when they lose possession, the team can look to reduce the spaces opponents exploit while retaining two forwards capable of causing problems in the final third.
Spalletti will be encouraged by the early signs, particularly after seeing his side respond with a victory in their latest league outing. However, maintaining that improvement will be important as Juventus look to build consistency during a demanding period of the season.

Juventus look to maintain their progress
The new system helped Juventus secure an away win against Lecce in their most recent match, providing a positive result after the disappointment against Lazio. Although the performance was not without its difficulties, the victory offered encouragement that the tactical adjustments could deliver benefits.
Spalletti is now focused on ensuring his players continue to perform effectively ahead of their upcoming match against Genoa. The manager will want his side to retain its improved defensive shape while finding greater consistency in attack.
Given the positive result against Lecce, Juventus are not expected to abandon the revised formation before their next fixture. If the players continue to adapt to the system, it could provide Spalletti with a more reliable foundation for the challenges ahead
