The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has commenced its two-day national summit on ‘Facilitating School-to-Work Transition’, bringing together school leaders, educators, industry representatives and policymakers to explore ways to prepare students for the changing demands of the employment sector. The fourth edition of the summit, being held on October 26 and 27 in association with the Sahodaya School Complexes of Delhi-NCR, aims to strengthen the integration of skill education into mainstream schooling and help students navigate the transition from school education to higher studies, vocational training and employment.
The Ministry of Education shared details of the summit on Monday, October 26, highlighting its focus on equipping students with the knowledge, practical competencies and guidance needed to make informed decisions about their future careers.
Addressing the inaugural session, School Education Secretary TK Anil Kumar outlined four major priorities for the summit. These include technology, digital safety and skills; design, creativity and innovation; recognition of skills across different education systems through the National Credit Framework (NCrF); and career guidance supported by equitable pathways.
Kumar emphasised the need to establish seamless pathways connecting school education with higher education, skill development and employment. He highlighted the importance of enabling learners to make well-informed choices about their academic and career journeys, allowing them to pursue lifelong learning, contribute meaningfully to society and lead lives with dignity.
According to the Ministry of Education, the summit has brought together stakeholders from the education sector, industry and policymaking to deliberate on emerging workforce requirements and innovative approaches to career preparation. In addition to facilitating discussions on the changing nature of employment, the event is providing participants with opportunities to establish professional connections, exchange experiences and develop partnerships that can support students and educational institutions.
The summit also emphasises the need to remove barriers between different streams of education and create a more integrated learning environment. The Ministry stated that the initiative aligns with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which seeks to equip students with the skills and competencies required to adapt to an evolving employment landscape.
Interactive sessions and expert discussions are forming an important part of the two-day programme. Through these engagements, participants are exploring innovative teaching practices, emerging assessment methods, the integration of digital tools into education and effective models for strengthening skill-based learning in schools.
Educators from CBSE-affiliated schools are also presenting case-based papers and posters showcasing successful initiatives and best practices in skill education. These presentations are providing a platform for schools to share their experiences, demonstrate effective implementation strategies and highlight approaches that could be adapted by other institutions.
As the summit continues on October 27, participants are also gaining insights into emerging trends and transformative practices in school education.
