Michelle Monaghan’s little black dress was coming apart at the seams at WWD Honors on Tuesday night. Intentionally, of course.
The actress arrived at Cipriani South Street in New York wearing look 37 from Joseph Altuzarra’s spring 2027 collection, a black dress that revealed a little more than the typical red carpet number
“It’s a little deconstructed, but she’s embellished, so I’m really into it,” Monaghan told WWD on the carpet.
The sleeveless midi dress featured a deep V-neckline that opened into a sheer, nude-colored panel down the center, with small floral embellishments scattered across the exposed fabric. The black material had uneven, frayed edges along the opening, continuing into the skirt, where another strip of embroidered fabric was visible through a front slit. The fitted design ended just below her knees, with an unfinished-looking hem. She paired the dress with black open-toe heels.
The dress came from Altuzarra’s spring 2027 collection, which WWD’s Emily Mercer described as “a bolder lineup that began with striking punk-tinged femininity.” The designer played with the contrast between traditionally masculine fabrics and more delicate details, including lingerie and embroidery revealed through torn-open garments. Monaghan’s dress was one example of just how far he took that idea.
Monaghan had a few ideas of her own when it came to the beauty look, starting with her oversized floral earrings. The mismatched-looking statement pieces featured clusters of white flowers with long strands of black and green embellishments.
“I really wanted to show off the earrings, so I really thought a nice, sleek bun would do that, and do just kind of a classic, clean look for the makeup,” she said of her statement jewelry, which was also featured on the runway.
She pulled her hair tightly back from her face, letting the earrings shine. As for her makeup, Monaghan wasn’t interested in experimenting with her eyebrows. She wanted to stay away from “the brow thing,” alluding to the bleached brows trend, instead opting to, “keep them a nice shape, and dark.”
The “White Lotus” actress was also on deck to present the Beauty Company of the Year award during the evening’s ceremony.
The 2026 WWD Honors was held Tuesday at Cipriani South Street in New York, where LVMH’s Bernard Arnault received the John B. Fairchild Honor. Tom Ford’s Haider Ackermann and Celine’s Michael Rider were recognized for womenswear and menswear design, respectively, while G-III Apparel Group’s Morris Goldfarb received the Creative Leadership Honor and Henry Zankov was named One to Watch. The event coincided with WWD’s Apparel & Retail CEO Summit.
