Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced changes to the management of medical institutions and the introduction of artificial intelligence systems during a meeting with professionals from the medical and pharmaceutical sectors. Starting in 2027, directors of 26 specialized medical centers will work under one-year contracts, while mechanisms will be introduced to allow the public to evaluate hospitals and polyclinics. Ten artificial intelligence systems will also be launched in several medical fields.
Beginning in 2027, the directors of 26 specialized medical centers will transition to one-year contracts. Each director will undertake specific obligations to introduce innovations, improve the qualifications of staff at lower levels and integrate scientific knowledge into clinical practice. Experts from foreign university clinics will be invited to identify shortcomings within the specialized medical centers and clearly define the responsibilities of their directors.
At the end of the year, directors will be required to present reports to the public. Decisions on renewing their contracts will depend on their performance results. Mirziyoyev instructed officials to introduce mechanisms starting in 2027 that will allow the public to evaluate the performance of every hospital and polyclinic at the national, regional and district levels.
The president also noted that the salaries of individual doctors and nurses will be linked to key performance indicators (KPIs). Public satisfaction with medical services will serve as the primary criterion. The president announced that 10 artificial intelligence systems will be launched in 2027 in medical fields including cardiology, hepatology, ophthalmology and hematology.
"New solutions will be introduced for the remote monitoring of patients, the diagnosis of diseases through speech analysis, and the oversight of medication safety," Mirziyoyev stated.
The announced measures will expand the application of artificial intelligence in medicine, with greater emphasis on integrating new technologies into the work of physicians. Competitions for "Best IT Operator" and "Best Digital Medicine Physician" will be held in every region. Winners will receive prizes of UZS 100mn.
