Moment R&B star Chris Brown attacks man with tequila bottle in London nightclub

This is the moment R&B superstar Chris Brown attacked a man with a tequila bottle in a London nightclub.

The dramatic footage shows the 37-year-old singer being physically pulled away from the man after striking him twice in the head with a “heavy” tequila bottle at a London club.

Brown is seen swinging the glass bottle at his victim in a “plainly dangerous” attack at around 3am on the dancefloor at the Tape private members’ club in Mayfair in February 2023.

The victim is then pursued by the American star and his vocal coach before Brown, who is wearing a tracksuit, is seen saying something to the victim, who is on the ground.

The CCTV footage was shown in court on Monday as Brown was handed an eight-month suspended prison sentence for affray.

His vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, 40, was given a four-month suspended sentence over the incident.

Judge Tony Baumgartner told the pair at Southwark Crown Court: “Violence of this kind in a crowded nightclub is serious.”

Addressing Brown, he said: “The repeated use of a glass bottle against the head made your conduct particularly dangerous.”

Brown had been facing trial after he hit Abraham Diaw twice over the head on the dancefloor at Tape.

Brown and Akinlolu admitted affray in July.

In front of an excited and packed public gallery, CCTV footage was shown where Brown swiped multiple times at Mr Diaw, connecting twice with his head, and then hitting his shoulder.

In another clip, Brown could be seen being “pulled away” from his victim.

Heidi Stonecliffe KC, prosecuting, described the weapon as a “heavy square shaped tequila bottle” and said he approached Mr Diaw at around 3am.

“We then see Mr Brown hit Mr Diaw twice over the left-hand side of his head,” she said.

Ms Stonecliffe told the court that Akinlolu had grabbed Mr Diaw in a “bear hug”.

She said: “Mr Diaw falls to the ground and Mr Brown is also seen throwing punches.”

She said the incident lasted around 20 seconds.

Mr Diaw was taken to St Mary’s Hospital following the incident.

The prosecutor said he was discharged with “pain relief and a diagnosis of head injury and superficial injury of the knee”.

An MRI scan taken in early March showed a “high grade injury to a ligament on the inner side of the left knee”, the court heard.

Brown was accompanied by security guards as he turned up at Southwark Crown Court early on Monday morning.

He wore a cap, black leather jacket and face mask. A few fans could be heard cheering as Brown exited his vehicle and walked into the building.

Following the sentencing, the Met Police issued CCTV from inside the nightclub showing the moment the attack took place.

Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah, of the Metropolitan Police, said: “This was an inexcusable attack that put a man in hospital.

“It has taken several years to secure this result for the victim and the wider public and I am grateful to the detectives who worked on this lengthy investigation.

“Despite the passage of time and the fact the suspects were no longer in the UK, we were determined that those responsible should face justice.

“Violence will not be accepted on the streets of London. Regardless of an individual's profile or status, we will pursue those responsible and work tirelessly to bring them before the courts.”
