Deputy Director and National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Multan in-charge Dr. Rizwan Sabir has gone viral after a bizarre verbal gaffe during a media interaction about monitoring anti-state content on social media.
While responding to questions about the agency’s efforts to control anti-state material online, Sabir repeatedly referred to the NCCIA’s Cyber Patrol Unit as “Cyber Petroleum.”
He made the same mistake twice while trying to explain how the unit monitors online platforms. Sabir said the unit had been established to keep an eye on “what’s going on social media” around the clock.

His remarks have gone viral on social media, where people have questioned the officer’s qualifications and his handling of the media interaction following the repeated mispronunciation.
The incident comes as the NCCIA has activated cyber patrolling and monitoring units across Pakistan, including Multan, under a zero-tolerance policy against fake news, online harassment, and anti-state propaganda.
Under Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, these units operate across regional circles and continuously monitor social media platforms and other online spaces. Their stated role is to identify misinformation, targeted online campaigns, and anti-state content.
The agency has expanded its monitoring efforts to track potentially harmful online activity and respond to violations.
