Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, made a string of allegations on the messaging platform MaxMessenger against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before calling on US President Donald Trump to remove Ukraine’s president.
MaxMessenger – often referred to simply as Max – is the Russian state-sponsored social media platform, intended to supplant Western channels, that requires the user to hold a Russian or Belarusian phone number to register.

According to an Oct. 25 report by The Moscow Times, the comments made on the Russian messaging platform included the statement: “American history itself offers a solution. All he [Trump] has to do is summon the secretary of war and the CIA director and tell them to take care of this ‘unfortunate little problem.’”
He then added: “The how, where, and by what means are irrelevant.”
Medvedev’s claims
Medvedev complained that while frequently demanding more money and weapons from the US, Zelensky “regularly spits in the face of the US president, ignoring his calls and turning important Americans and Europeans against him.”
He said that Ukrainian drone strikes on Russia’s oil refineries were in defiance of Trump’s “numerous requests” to hold off and were yet another example of Zelensky’s arrogance which he contrasted with Kyiv’s supposedly more cooperative relationship with the former US president, Joe Biden.

Zelensky also warns that lifting sanctions before a leaders’ meeting with Putin could leave Ukraine and its allies without crucial leverage in negotiations.
Medvedev said Zelensky’s “refusal” to accept Russia’s proposals for peace prevents the war from ending, the continuation of which poses a greater threat to US interests than Iran, Cuba, and Venezuela combined.
He further accused Zelensky of embezzling US aid, without offering any evidence to back up such claims, and said Ukraine was intent on engineering a direct nuclear conflict between Russia, the US and NATO.
Another call for Zelensky’s elimination
Medvedev has frequently called for the “physical elimination” of Zelensky or, alternatively, a repeat of the “Venezuelan scenario” – the forcible removal of the Ukrainian head of state – on a number of social media channels, including Telegram.
On Oct. 16 he wrote in a post on Telegram:
“They [the Ukrainians] won’t make peace with Zelensky. He doesn’t want to make peace. He says he wants to make peace, but he doesn’t really want to.”
He suggested a solution to the impasse that Zelensky “should be given rat poison or consume a horse-sized dose of its favorite cocaine,” before adding he “is so cowardly that he won’t even consider such a thing.”
Medvedev, who is considered to be on of President Vladimir Putin’s closest confidantes, suggests the elimination of the Ukrainian president is the answer solving the war in Ukraine, that Russia launched, rather than a diplomatic solution.
According to the Moscow Times there have been at least ten attempts to assassinate Zelensky by Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups in the first months of the war.
His comments, while more extreme, echo the Oct. 10 sentiments expressed by Trump that Ukraine needs to elect a new president who can “make a deal” to end the war with Russia. He said this the day after making a deal with Putin to buy large quantities of Russian diesel suggesting this was necessary because Zelensky had not done enough to end the war with Russia, blaming high diesel prices in the US on Kyiv’s continuing attacks on Russia’s oil infrastructure..
