Members of CITU staged demonstration in Thoothukudi on Monday, demanding Deepavali bonus of ₹5,000 for unorganised workers.
The protest was held in front of the Labour Welfare Board Office. R. Krishnaveni, State committee member of CITU presided.
A large number of workers participated and raised slogans demanding that the Tamil Nadu government provide a Deepavali bonus of ₹5,000 to all unorganised workers.
They also urged the government to withdraw the new labour codes, which they believed would undermine the welfare board schemes. Further, they demanded ₹3.3 lakh crore, equivalent to 1% of the GDP, be allocated to welfare boards to ensure social security for unorganised workers.
