Extraordinary celebrations at FC Bayern: following his triumph in being voted the best footballer of the season, Harry Kane, along with the other Bayern players nominated for the Ballon d’Or, received a fitting welcome in Munich from teammates, numerous staff members and FC Bayern fans. He will also be honoured by the fans both at Wednesday’s cup tie against Magdeburg and Saturday’s Bundesliga Klassiker against Dortmund.
Ahead of the final training session before the DFB Cup tie, there was a big surprise at FC Bayern’s training ground on Säbener Straße for Kane and the rest of the players who returned from the ceremony in London on Tuesday afternoon. Teammates, club officials and FC Bayern staff welcomed the team featuring the 33-year-old with a long round of applause. On the way to the training pitch, the staff formed a guard of honour, which a beaming Kane walked through to loud cheers and chants of “Harry, Harry”. It was a particularly emotional moment – for Kane and for all of the double winners. A spontaneous sing-along was also organised for Dayot Upamecano, who celebrated his 28th birthday on Tuesday.

In London the previous evening, Kane had won the Ballon d’Or as the best footballer in the world in the 2025/26 season. This marked the first time in 45 years – since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s triumph – that an FC Bayern player had been awarded the prestigious trophy. Before him, Gerd Müller, Franz Beckenbauer and Rummenigge had already joined the exclusive list of Munich-based Ballon d’Or winners.
As well as the Ballon d’Or, Kane also received the trophy for best striker of the 2025/26 season. At the ceremony, the striker thanked his family and key companions, saying: “It's an honour to play for this club and to bring this trophy back to Munich.”

FC Bayern had already made a striking contribution to the special night in London heading into the small hours of Tuesday: the Allianz Arena was bathed in gold with the word ‘Kane’ displayed on the stadium’s façade. The Empire State Building in New York was also illuminated in gold in honour of the new Ballon d'Or winner.
The Munich delegation in London was a large one: president Herbert Hainer, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and Bianca Rech, director of women’s football, were in attendance at the awards ceremony – whilst board member for sport Max Eberl had been forced to pull out that morning due to a cold. Several other FC Bayern players were also nominated, including Michael Olise, Luis Díaz, Dayot Upamecano, Klara Bühl, Pernille Harder and Momoko Tanikawa. Vincent Kompany, shortlisted for Coach of the Year, had stayed behind in Munich and received encouraging applause from the numerous guests from the world of football.
Celebration with the fans at the Allianz Arena
The next tributes are already being planned: ahead of the DFB Cup tie against 1. FC Magdeburg on Wednesday night, Kane and his teammates will receive a special welcome at the Allianz Arena from the fans, and the Ballon d’Or winner will also be honoured once again at the stadium before Der Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. Kane will take the unique trophy into the stadium and show it to the FC Bayern supporters.
Fans also have the chance to commemorate this historic achievement on their jerseys by ordering a specially-designed golden number 9 in the FC Bayern Store.
