The asset manager is seeking to bring a TAO-linked exchange-traded fund to the New York Stock Exchange's Arca platform.
Grayscale is pushing forward with a plan to bring a Bittensor-linked exchange-traded fund to NYSE Arca, according to reports from CoinGape and The Cryptonomist. The filing would mark another step in Grayscale's ongoing effort to translate its existing crypto investment products into listed, exchange-traded structures.
Bittensor, known by its native token TAO, is a decentralized machine-learning network. It rewards participants for contributing computational resources to a peer-to-peer system designed to incentivize open artificial intelligence development. TAO has drawn attention from investors looking for exposure to the intersection of blockchain technology and AI infrastructure.
Grayscale has built a reputation for converting trust-based crypto products into ETFs once regulatory pathways open up. The firm previously moved its Bitcoin and Ethereum trusts into exchange-traded formats after years of filings and legal pressure. A Bittensor ETF would extend that strategy into a smaller, more specialized corner of the digital asset market.
Listing on NYSE Arca would give the proposed fund access to one of the most liquid and widely used exchange platforms in the United States. NYSE Arca has already hosted several cryptocurrency ETFs, including products tied to Bitcoin and Ethereum. A TAO listing there would signal growing institutional appetite for altcoin-based investment vehicles beyond the two largest cryptocurrencies.
The filing process for a new crypto ETF typically involves exchange applications, regulatory review, and public comment periods before any product can begin trading. Approval timelines have varied significantly across past crypto ETF filings, and outcomes are not guaranteed. Neither source detailed a specific timeline for when the Bittensor ETF might clear remaining regulatory hurdles.
Interest in AI-linked tokens has grown over the past year as investors sought ways to combine exposure to artificial intelligence trends with blockchain-based assets. Bittensor's positioning at that intersection has made it one of the more closely watched projects in that niche. A listed ETF tracking TAO would offer a regulated entry point for investors who prefer traditional brokerage accounts over direct token custody.
Market Impact
A Bittensor ETF listing on NYSE Arca could broaden access to TAO for investors who are unable or unwilling to hold the token directly through crypto exchanges or wallets. Regulated fund structures often reduce custody and security concerns that have deterred some institutional participants from entering smaller altcoin markets.
Any near-term price reaction in TAO would likely depend on how the filing progresses through regulatory review rather than on the initial announcement alone. Past crypto ETF filings have shown that market reactions can shift substantially between the filing stage and eventual approval or rejection, so outcomes for TAO remain uncertain at this stage.
Grayscale's move toward a Bittensor ETF reflects the broader trend of asset managers extending crypto exposure beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum into specialized sectors like AI-linked tokens. Whether the filing ultimately clears regulatory review on NYSE Arca remains to be seen.
