Three Korean titles, including "The Taste of Tart," have been selected for the 2027 Books for All list of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY).
The Korean Board on Books for Young People (KBBY) said on the 27th that three Korean books made the list: "The Taste of Tart" by Kim Ji-min, published by Hansol Soobook; "Biscuit" by Kim Sun-mi, published by Wisdom House; and "Eunhye's Embrace" by Jeong Eun-hye, published by Iyagijangsu.
"The Taste of Tart" is a picture book that renders the abstract sense of taste through pop-up techniques. "Biscuit" is a fantasy coming-of-age novel about a boy who struggles to save beings that have become invisible to others. "Eunhye's Embrace" is a warm illustrated essay in which the author, a painter and actor with a developmental disability, records moments of holding and being held by others.
IBBY Books for All is an international project through which IBBY identifies and promotes outstanding books for children and young adults that address disability, diversity and inclusion. Books nominated by IBBY national sections around the world are reviewed, and the selected titles are publicized through international exhibitions and published catalogs.
A total of 216 books published in 36 languages across 30 countries were submitted for this round of selection. Of those, 40 titles from 26 countries in 22 languages were chosen for the final list.
"We will continue to share with the world the value of Korean books for children and young adults that capture diverse lives and experiences, and to work toward a reading environment for all and the spread of an inclusive publishing culture," KBBY said.
