Colombo, Oct 26 (Daily Mirror) - Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala has instructed Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya to conduct a prompt and independent investigation into the death of a suspect while in the custody of the Homagama Police.
The Minister has further directed that appropriate legal action be taken based on the findings and facts revealed by the post-mortem examination and the ongoing investigation into the incident.
Emphasizing that ensuring the safety and human dignity of individuals taken into police custody is a fundamental responsibility of law enforcement officers, the Minister reiterated the necessity for a prompt and independent inquiry.
