Kriti Sanon, fresh off the runway after turning showstopper for designer Abhinav Mishra in a black, mirror-embellished lehenga, reached for yet another impactful Indian wear look. At a recent public appearance, the actor turned to a sari—but with a contemporary twist. She was seen wearing a red sari from Bodice by New Delhi-based designer Ruchika Mehta, featuring her signature three-dimensional white stripes binding along its edges and on the blouse.
The viscose crepe sari was devoid of embellishments and surface ornamentation with the exception of the white matching fabric. The white lines ran along the sari border and pallu, giving the monochromatic sari depth and definition.
Sanon paired the drape with a matching viscose crepe blouse featuring a deep V-neckline at the front and back. The striped design extended across the sleeves and back, creating a contrast with the sari’s solid red body, while also lending it a unique, edgy geometric perspective.
For jewellery, Sanon's longtime stylist and collaborator Sukriti Grover chose drop earrings made with sea shells from label H Craft Fine Jewellery to match the stripes on the sari and rings by Anaash. She finished with a Koko Halo Cascade clutch in ivory colour from Outhouse Jewellery and white pumps. Hair stylist Aasif Ahmed styled Sanon’s hair in her signature side-parted, turned-out blowout while makeup artist Adrian Jacobs gave her a smoky rose-brown eyeshadow and a glossy lip.
From the Vogue desk:
“Kriti Sanon's bodice red sari leans into a more artsy and contemporary style of a sari. The way to achieve this overall feel is to stick to a monotone or block of colour, as she has with the red sari and mix it with a geometric print. This keeps the look pared back while the red as a colour delivers the impact. Pair this with soft leather pointed mules and an envelope leather bag to complete the look,” says Divya Balakrishnan, Vogue India fashion associate.
