Bam Adebayo Takes Aim at Critics After Heat Struggles

Bam Adebayo is not interested in overthinking his early-season shooting struggles.

The Miami Heat center has heard the criticism, but he believes the outside noise has gone too far. Now, he has a message for those questioning his performance.

“My shot’s not going in. I’m not gonna overthink that. Funny how the outside noise wants to make me the scapegoat. But when the energy shifts, be prepared for that,” Adebayo said in a post-game conference.

He has struggled to find his rhythm offensively, prompting questions about his role and production. Rather than allowing the criticism to affect his confidence, Adebayo is backing himself to turn things around.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra acknowledged that Adebayo needs to find his shooting touch. He believes the big man has been getting quality opportunities but has struggled to convert them.

“He just needs to see the ball go in. He had some good clean looks, he just wasn't able to capitalize on them. We'll work together to get him aggressive in the spots he's comfortable,” Spoelstra said.

The numbers explain why the conversation has intensified. Adebayo averaged 13 points and seven rebounds through Miami's first three games, shooting 42.9% from the field and 23.1% from three-point range.

His struggles continued against the Dallas Mavericks. Adebayo finished with eight points on 3-of-10 shooting as Miami fell 113-109, dropping to 0-4 to start the season.

His response makes one thing clear. Adebayo is not backing away from the criticism. He believes the tide can turn, and the next step is proving it on the court.
