Five cottages sealed in Valparai due to lack of approvals

Revenue and municipal officials sealed five cottages near Sholayar Dam in Valparai on Tuesday (October 27, 2026) following a Madras High Court order, after the properties were found to be operating without the required approvals.

The operation was led by Tahsildar Arasa Kumar and Municipal Commissioner P. Venkata Lakshman, with police protection.

The action followed the High Court’s dismissal of a petition challenging the sealing order. In a related case on unauthorised homestays and cottages, the Commissioner told the court that notices had been issued to around 250 properties seeking documents for verification.

The owners of five cottages failed to submit the required documents, and verification found that the properties had been operating on revenue land without necessary approvals, officials said.
