Colombo, Oct. 27 (Daily Mirror) - President’s Counsel Ali Sabry, appearing on behalf of Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa in connection with the Krrish deal case, today filed a motion before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court seeking bail, citing Namal Rajapaksa's mother’s medical condition as an exceptional circumstance.
Making submissions in support of the application, President’s Counsel Ali Sabry informed court that Shiranthi Rajapaksa was scheduled to undergo an open-heart surgery at 4 p.m. today.
He further submitted that she was currently using a pacemaker and that Rajapaksa’s father was also in poor health.
The President’s Counsel submitted that Namal Rajapaksa wished to visit his mother before she undergoes surgery, adding that concerns remained as to whether he would have another opportunity to see her, depending on her medical condition.
The President’s Counsel also submitted that no further exceptional circumstances could be advanced in support of the bail application.
After considering the submissions made by both parties, the Magistrate observed that the bail application had been made by way of a motion before the case was taken up.
The Bribery Commission informed court that it wished to examine the documents submitted in support of the bail application and make submissions on the application.
Accordingly, the Magistrate directed that the relevant documents be furnished to the Bribery Commission and fixed the bail application for an order tomorrow.
