A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Anas Adamu Galadima, popularly known as Zam Zam, has urged Northerners to re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
Galadima made the call while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the APC presidential campaign launch in Kaduna, on Saturday.
He identified political reciprocity, continuity, economic reforms and improved national security as three reasons for the North to support Tinubu’s second term.
He said Tinubu’s role in Buhari’s victory in 2015 and the need to consolidate economic and security gains are reasons for his re-election.
He said Buhari had lost presidential bids in 2003, 2007 and 2011 before Tinubu deployed his political structures, grassroots networks and resources in support of the APC candidate in 2015.
Galadima said, “President Buhari’s victory in 2015 was a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic history. Before that election, he had contested three times without winning.
The political support, structures and resources that His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu brought into the contest were instrumental in building the coalition that eventually secured victory.”
He maintained that reciprocity should guide political relationships, saying Tinubu and the South-West deserve two terms, just as Buhari had.
He said, “Politics should not be about taking support when you need it and abandoning the principle of reciprocity when it is time to return that support.
“In the spirit of fairness and mutual respect, the South-West should also be allowed to complete its two-term.”
Galadima said his second reason for supporting Tinubu’s re-election was to sustain the economic reforms, arguing that fundamental economic changes require time and policy consistency to yield results.
He cited foreign-exchange reforms, saying sustained implementation was necessary to achieve lasting results.
While acknowledging the short-term hardship of the reforms, he warned that abandoning them prematurely could undermine efforts to build a stable and productive economy.
He said, “The reforms being undertaken are significant, and their long-term benefits will depend on consistency, effective implementation and the ability to address the difficulties Nigerians face during the transition. We need to consolidate the gains, improve the implementation and ensure that the benefits reach ordinary citizens.”
He said that a second Tinubu term would deepen reforms, boost investor confidence, and deliver tangible results.
On security, Galadima recent changes to security leadership and structures offered an opportunity to strengthen the fight against terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.
He said the North has a particular interest in supporting measures that could deliver lasting peace, protect lives and property, urging the APC to intensify engagement with citizens across the North.
He said, “We cannot afford to treat national security as a short-term political issue. The recent adjustments in the security architecture must be given the necessary support, time and resources to deliver results. A second term would provide an opportunity to consolidate the efforts and pursue a more sustained response to insecurity.”
On Kwara politics, Galadima urged residents to support the candidature of Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi (SYD), commending Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for promoting power rotation in the state for the first
time since 999.
